 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC URGENT SITUATION
The country and indeed world is in a very serious position regarding Coronavirus.  The situation is changing almost by the hour and everybody, one way and another is or will be affected.

Rushcliffe Borough Council and Nottinghamshire County Council, are our lead local authorities who are co-ordinating and providing information and advice. Their websites are being updated regularly.  For official and accurate updates, please visit www.rushcliffe.gov.uk and www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk

There is a lot of help now with grants to businesses and groups to manage and carry on during the pandemic.  These are run by Nottinghamshire County Council and Rushcliffe Borough Council.  Full details are on their websites, and we encourage you to look at these.  Many local businesses and groups have already received vital funding.

PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL AND CAUTIOUS OF SOCIAL MEDIA SITES - e.g. Facebook etc.  Most people are genuine and trying to help, but sometimes, incorrect advice and information appears.  Please use the formal national and local government sites and pages.

As part of National Volunteers Week, we were very pleased to nominate Jane Wood, from Cotgrave WI, who as a group of ladies have been making face masks and other PPE.  We also helped with a grant to buy some sewing machines.

We care about matters that our residents also care about and are interested in.  One of these is policing, of course.
Whilst we have the wonderful new Hub building in Cotgrave which also houses the area Police now, we need to be sure that we get the local police presence and response correct.  Richard was able to recently engage with and discuss issues with the Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire.

Nottinghamshire Gigabit Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme

Nottinghamshire County Council have created a broadband ‘top-up voucher’ in conjunction with the Department for Digital, Media, Culture & Sport (DCMS) to help deliver digital connectivity to the hardest-to-reach areas of the county.
This top-up will be delivered through the Government’s Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme in the form of a top-up to the existing rural gigabit voucher, and will double the quantities available under the existing scheme. Nottinghamshire small and medium sized businesses will be able to claim up to £3,500 of additional funding and Nottinghamshire residents will be able to claim up to £1,500 of additional funding. This means that rural businesses will have up to £7,000 available and rural premises will have up to £3,000 available to assist in delivering digital connectivity.
Find out if you could benefit by visiting the county council website

Richard Butler has been the Nottinghamshire county councillor, for Cotgrave Division since 2001, and is also one of your Rushcliffe Borough councillors and a member of Cotgrave Town Council.  He has lived in Cotgrave for over 25 years. (Moved three times within Cotgrave!)

He has been a governor of Candleby Lane school from when the school started, and prior to that was chairman of governors at the infant and nursery school, and was heavily involved in the negotiations and planning for the merger of the infant and primary schools to create Candleby Lane school.  He is very well known in the area and is always available to meet and help residents with any queries.

Leo Healy has lived in Cotgrave for several years having lived in other parts of Rushcliffe.

He is a regular volunteer on the Cotgrave Speedwatch and Lorrywatch groups.

With the investment that is coming to Cotgrave as a result of the Hollygate Park housing and regeneration of the precinct, he hopes to play his part as a newly elected town councillor.

Christine Jeffreys is a real Cotgrave stalwart!  She and her husband David have lived in Cotgrave for over 50 years.

A former Nottinghamshire county councillor and Rushcliffe Borough councillor for Cotgrave, Christine was also Mayor of Rushcliffe in the early 2000s and 2019.

Christine never misses an opportunity to talk with great knowledge and enthusiasm about Cotgrave, its history and really "bangs the drum" for Cotgrave.

Stuart Ellis is quite new to Cotgrave.

He moved to one of the new houses at Hollygate Park, having moved from Derbyshire for family reasons - grandchildren duties!

Stuart is an experienced councillor, having until recently been a member of Derbyshire County Council, North East Derbyshire District Council, and his local parish council.

He recently joined Cotgrave Town Council through a co-option process.

All these different councils - what do they do?
People sometimes ask, very understandably, about the differences between the various councils who serve us. It can sometimes get a bit confusing, even for those of us who are involved!  Cotgrave has three different councils; Nottinghamshire County Council, which as its name says, is the county council for the whole of Nottinghamshire, also known as "top tier" in local government; Rushcliffe Borough Council, which is a district or "second tier", and Cotgrave Town Council, which is a parish council, or "third tier".

They have different roles and responsibilities.  County councils are responsible for services across the whole of a county, including education, transport, planning, fire and public safety, adult health and social care, libraries, waste management, trading standards, country parks.

Borough/district councils - rubbish collection, recycling, Council Tax collections (on behalf of all the councils) housing, planning applications and local plans, environmental health, leisure, dog wardens.

Parish/town - allotments, community parks/play areas, grants to help local organisations, consultation on neighbourhood planning, street litter/leaves/dog mess clearing.

There is also some crossover at times on a local level and, crucially, it is important that all the councils work well together to provide information and service to residents.  You can find out more at the national "Gov" website -
